Our GPS keeps saying low

Let me see if I understand your question.

You had your GPS plugged into your vehicle power outlet (AKA cigarette lighter) and you thought you were charging the battery all along. However, your power outlet was not "live" (you checked?) so you replaced the fuse. Your GPS was telling you LOW BATTERY and turned off, and that was why you checked the fuse and it was blown, right?

So now, your power outlet is hot (you checked it right) and you have a good 12 volts DC. You have your GPS plugged in and it still says LOW BATTERY and shuts off. Is there a fuse in the GPS plug? Have you checked for this? Are you able to check the voltage where the cord plugs into the GPS with a volt meter?

There is that possibility that everything is well with your power supply - but you must check and assure you have power. If it is, and your GPS still says LOW BATTERY, I would be inclined to take it for a drive with it plugged in and turned off. At the end of the drive, try it again. (Is your power outlet HOT when the car is not running?) If all is well with the power and you have tried to charge it, the battery may not be accepting the charge due to a battery fault. I don't know if you have the tools required to change the battery or not. If you do and if you can find the battery (there are lots of batteries available at many sites) and it does not cost more than a replacement GPS, I would suggest you give it a try. What the heck, it doesn't work now so you don't have much to loose except the price of the battery.

You might find the battery you reqire at a FixYa.com advertiser to be found here on this page. Your support of FixYa.com advertisers will be appreciated by the site.

If I missed the ball, please provide a little more detail on the matter and I will try again.

There it is all in under 10 minutes.
