Hi and welcome to FixYa,
OLD wires have the center terminal ground strap connected. Remove the ground strip from the post and just move it away from any terminals so that is hangs free but does NOT touch the venter terminal. It will NOT be used on the 4 wire cord.
Then connect Black to Black Red to Red White to the center terminal and GREEN must be physically attached to the cabinet. Failure to follow these steps will result in the dryer heating up even while OFF. .

There is an ignition panel in gas dryers that gets hot and when it reaches a certain temperature it causes the pilot light to ignite. It may be that your ignition needs to be replaced. We did this and had another 6 years from our gas dryer.
If you're skilled, you can probably do this replacement yourself. If you don't feel comfortable doing repairs, you might look for a reasonably priced professional who will do it for you. It only takes a few minutes.

I've found 'Soft heat' to be considerably lower than Regular.

It could be a high limit overload, but the cause may be a blocked air vent. You can remove the dryer vent in the back and see if the problem stops, this will tell you if the vent is blocked or not. Ryan

yes, just connect the 2 wires that are connected to common and no (normally open) the other one is for the light

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Check to make sure you are getting full 220 Volt power to the dryer, if you are then:
Check your Wiring
Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. If this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached.
Check the Door Switch
If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. Check for continuity you should have none with door open, and should have a reading when closed. If not replace the door switch.
Check to make sure you heating problem is not a lint build up in the discharge hose or the dryer,as this condition can cause heater/thermistor problems such as overheating of the heating coil leading to failure of the coil and burnout of the thermostat/thermistor due to overheat.
Remove the back/or front just under the door of the machine and try to locate the air duct going from the blower to the drum. Normally inside/outside the air duct you will find the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistors. Once you have located the heating coil, remove the two wires from it and check the coil with an ohm meter across the two terminals of the coil.
You should read continuity across the terminals, if not you will need to replace the coil as it is faulty.
If the heating coil is ok, then:
You can check the thermostat/thermistor one at a time by removing the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape and running the dryer to check to see if the element is red or not,
or with an ohm meter check the two terminals of the thermostat/thermister
after you have removed the wires, the thermostat/thermistor should have/show continuity across the terminals.
If the coil heats up, or the thermostat/thermistor shows an open circut
then replace the thermostat/thermistor as it is defective.
If it overheats the dryer will not operate properly.
It's located on the blower housing.
It cannot be reset. A vent clogged with lint can cause it to overheat.
You can test it with an Ohm meter/continuity checker, if no continuity,
replace it)
DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST.
This could cause a FIRE, as you have removed the safety of overheat from the machine.
Right after replacing a dryer element, always run the dryer on 'air fluff' / 'no heat', and go outside to verify there's plenty of air coming out your vent system.
If the vent's clogged, that new element can burn out very quickly.

Seems like your belt is slipping or the Idle pully is worn or broke

open the top let it laid back look down to top right and left sides you will see two srecw take them out and the front shound come off.but first take the bottom off you will see a tension pulley lose it to take the belt off .then take the tumbler out

First look for lint build up that could cause limits to kill power to the motor Clean the dryer and vent up. Check the element. It might be shorted to the pan. Hello- Did you replace the Hi-Limit thermostat? If so you should also replace the Thermal fuse, located on the vent that comes from the blower wheel. Its is white plastic and has two terminals. Also double check that it is getting the full 220V. Good luck, best regards.

You need the rear drum bearing replaced,and while tearing down to replace the rear bearing the front bearing surface should be inspected (Its actually a plastic piece with teflon glide bars attached that the front of the drum rides on)..

Since the light is not coming on either, check the curcuit breaker first. It can be half tripped and look like it is good. That should be the problem. If not, then check the power at the outlet and at the dryer. Turn power OFF when taking cover off dryer. 220v Hurts.

The problem is the dryer coils have failed. They tend to fail as they heat up. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. Here is a link that should help
