Error code 5 E : Ice Maker Function Error - Ice-ejector and level failed three times or more. May simply be a trapped piece of ice which is not too rare a problem especially if the freezer door is left open too long.The ice pieces will stick to each other. It may dislodge itself or if the problem persists you may have to de-freeze it ( letting the freezer defrost over night.)

This error means some thing is wrong with the fan to the ice maker. It might also be a bad control board. If it is still under warranty get he board replaced. Kenmore has had some problems with these particular boards. You make be able to reset board by unplugging unit for a while and plugging it back in. Hope this helps

Is it possible that the error code is missing characters? According to my research 8 is not a valid error code. The number 8 is more like a temperature setting, however to be certain, let's try resetting the appliance. It is important to wait roughly ten minutes and then turn the unit on. Set the correct temperature and please allow 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize. The error code should clear and the unit resume to normal operations. I think that code is a mechanical error code. Not sure. Call the mfr and see what they say. You can google the code and model number and perhaps get it there.

The ER-FF problem that you have is: ERROR -FAN FREEZER so it means that you have a problem with maybe the fan motor or if it's a bottom mount freezer maybe ice built up on the fan motor so it's blockin the fan motor.
