I have had the printer since Jan 3, 2009, and it has worked like a dream. This morning I turned it on and received the message "scanner error. turn printer off, wait a few seconds, turn back on. See documentation." I turned the printer off and on about 10 times with no luck. I disconnected and reconnected all cables. I tried plugging the printer directly into the wall rather than a power strip. I restarted my computer. I downloaded the most current printer driver and scanner utility directly from Epson. I restarted my computer several times. Nothing has worked. Please help.

For any pilgrims lost on the path, and trying to follow the map above, here is a major road not marked
- the actual link here takes you straight there! I couldn't get it from the canon website, I got it by searching for 'scangearmp-common'.

I have no CD in order to reinstall the USB device. The machine copies and now prints, but not scans!!

most easiest fix for this.. make sure in the properties of that printer.. under the PORT tab. make sure its set to usb not LPT. this is very common error.

I have seen that in most of the cases (with lexmark and dell printers) it is fixed by reinstalling the printer software. Be sure that you completely remove the older drivers using the cd or using add/remove programs.
