Get Revo uninstaller from www.download.com
uninstall Java and download Java 1.6.0.16 from www.filehippo.com, look at the main page of filehippo and scroll down on the right side of the page under the drivers tab and it will be there along with many other useful programs...site is a life saver.

I had the same problems and found that the new driver i had upgraded to for my NVidia card was the culprit. I rolled it back and my problem was fixed. Hope this helps.
