Help! I got my PC repaired last December and my original mobo got replaced with a Foxconn 661MXPlus motherboard. The thing is I cannot boot into safe mode or my PC automatically shuts down when I boot-up sometimes or when I try to reinstall windows xp after setup loads. Also, windows hangs indefinitely when I load games or do my video editing.
I ran Memtest 86 and found no problems with my memory. Also used the onboard VGA instead of the AGP card and that didn't eliminate the problem. Removed any PCI cards and booted up, but the problem is still there. Tried installing Ubuntu but it won't boot, and I can't even reinstall Windows with a blank hard disk because my PC shutsdown after "Setup is starting Windows". Tried resetting the CMOS, but the problem went away about 30 seconds before hanging and then the same problems came back after resetting the computer.
My CPU fan reaches about 77 degrees Celsius and I never overclocked my PC.
What should I do? Will buying a better CPU heat sink solve the problem (maybe because of auto shutdown), or should I do something else with my PC?

Well it sure sounds like an overheating problem, and 77 degrees celcius is way too high, specialy if it's right after boot! try reseatting the heatsink and make sure the repair place put a thin coat of heatsink compound paste on the processor. You need to bring that number down so really pay extra attention to the heatsink.

i forgot to mention that i already have the latest BIOS in my mobo from the Foxconn website
it really worked! i replaced my heatsink w/ a scythe ninja mini. not only did my CPU's temp go down 20-30 degrees, but it became so much quieter, and some of my games run really smoothly! i'm still doing some tests to make sure everything is ok... thanks!
The heatsink might've been busted cuz it's 3 years old. anyway...
i might have resolved the hanging problem as well, but my solution got rid of annoying BSODs. When I played Worms 4, the BSOD pops-up w/in 10 mins, (or 3 hours when I just idle) but when I changed my BIOS settings, it seems to be fixed. I lowered my DRAM frequency from 200Mhz to 133Mhz, and that might've did the trick.
