You can unplug the unit & open the doors. Not very friendly to all of the items in the fridge. You can accelerate thawing w/ a heat gun or hair dryer. You will need to replace the defrost timer to prevent it from re-freezing. The defrost timer is relatively easy to replace. I recommend viewing the manufacturers' website to determine location & part number of the defrost timer.

1st stick a rag in the hole in the door (ice maker door) 99% of the time or o door gasket .... next ohm the auto frost coils to see if there in good working order, if they are it might be that you are low of freon. not a good sign

The beeping could be a low temperature warning. Check to make sure the temperature is staying cold enough and then check the door seal. Use a store bot fridge/freezer thermometer. Use a dollar bill to check seal. If you close door on the bill it should hold the bill tight but still let you pull it out. If it is loose then you need to adjust the door to fit tighter.

My guess is that you have a standard fridge freezer, perhaps GE or Whirlpool that has a freezer section at the top and a fridge below it??
There are two or three reasons for this. Okay, I just thought of 4 :>D
The Defrost timer for the freezer has failed causing the evaporator to fill with ice.
or
The defrost heater has failed as that melts when the timer kicks in.
or
the drain below the freezer evaporator is blocked as well.
or
It needs a top up of refrigerant gas.
With mine, the Defrost timer had failed.
